I know you all might have seen this before - this is the shot I took for the Apple Insomnia Contest. It didn't win but I like it enough to post it here.
Well this shot took only a 3'x2'softbox(behind glass) and one other speedlight in front to light the plant leaves. I had my girlfriend help me hold the plant right, and we even tried a few shots using some fishing line to keep the plant oriented correctly. For this shot all we did was dip the bottom of the plant in some green ink, threw it in the glass and clicked away. It took several tries to get this particular shot. If you're just doing ink in water, I'd suggest using a dropper of some sort to get nice round drops in the water.
